PHILLIES: Outfielder Casper Wells claimed off waivers

The Phillies have claimed outfielder Casper Wells off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

Wells will be added to the roster will be added to the roster when the team travels to Washington on Friday.

The Phillies will his fifth team this season. Wells has been with Seattle, Toronto, Oakland and Chicago in 2013, with the ChiSox recently placing him on waivers.

Wells has played at the Major League level with Oakland and Chicago this season, playing in 41 games (three with Oakland, 38 with Chicago). He is hitting .155 with one RBI and a .380 on-base plus slugging percentage.

His batting average is second worst on the team, with utility man Michael Martinez claiming the...honor?...I guess?...with a .091 average.

Wells has played in 265 games at the Major League level since 2010. His career batting average is .236 with 25 home runs, 81 RBIs and a .712 OPS.

“He's a versatile outfielder who adds depth to our club and can be a power threat off the bench," general manger Ruben Amaro Jr. said.
